‘Pilot Leadership Mentoring Project’- A grant of €3,000 was received from the Women’s Fund (Community Foundation of Ireland) and a mentoring programme was organised aimed at women candidates running in the Local Elections. Ten candidates attended from six neighbouring counties (Sligo, Roscommon, Galway, Donegal, and Leitrim) and participated in three workshops on communications, campaigning and media. Of the ten participants, six were elected as Councillors. A debriefing session was held with training participants at the end of July at which they exchanged valuable lessons on their campaigning experiences. Reports on the training and debriefing sessions were compiled.
‘Voices and Views from Local Elections 2014 – How women fared, reflections and lessons for the general election’
This seminar was organised in January with the 5050 Group. Attended by over 50 participants, speakers presented an analysis of the elections from a gender perspective and explored strategies to increase women candidates as political parties prepared for the 2015 General Election. A seminar newsletter was produced highlighting the key messages and recommendations.
